Michael Protacio ('14), Shawn Garrett (M.F.A. '96, D.F.A. '06), yale.NYC President Isil Yildiz ('04), and Sunny Kang (YSM '92 MM,'93 AD) attend the annual AYA Assembly to accept the 2018 Best Marketing, Branding, and Communications Effort Award.
At the annual AYA Assembly, the 2-day leadership workshop for selected alumni volunteer leaders, yale.NYC’s arts initiative, arts@yaleNYC, was honored with the 2018 Best Marketing, Branding, and Communications Effort Award. The AYA Board of Governors Excellence Awards are given to alumni classes, regional clubs and associations, shared identity and interest groups, and the graduate and professional school alumni associations that raise standards and contribute to the effectiveness of Yale alumni relations through outstanding events and programs.
Michael Protacio, our new arts committee chair, spearheaded the re-launch of our arts initiative and was able to put together 9 events in 2018. arts@yaleNYC hosted 3 art salons, 1 museum tour, 3 theater outings (2 with talkbacks), 1 band showcase, and 1 dance event -- all placing heavy emphasis on in-person networking for local alumni, new and more diverse experiences, as well as a focus on emerging artists in the NYC area. Michael’s efforts were a success, and we had many alumni join us for these amazing events, including some who hadn’t yet been aware of our network or hadn’t yet taken advantage of the local alumni community. yale.NYC is so proud of this award, and we can’t wait to host more art-related events in 2019!
Past AYA / Board of Governors awards for yale.NYC include the 2014 Leadership Award for William Kolber and his Foodtober initiative, the 2010 Outstanding Major Cities Awards, and the 2011 Most Creative Use of Technology and Social Networking Media and Outstanding Innovation awards.
